Lanna Mon 28 March
Another extremely tight match as is befitting a final. Nigel and Gary B went hole for hole in the first nine. The back nine saw Nigel creep gradually ahead so that at the 16th it was dormie 2. Nigel won the 17th and Gary B taking the 18th leaving Nigel to take the honours 2 up and become our current reigning knockout champion.

Alpine 24 March
In the other semi-final round Gary Burke, who has had a dream run with two byes, played his first match against Christian Friis. I am told by Christian that the course, although beautiful, was long and quite a challenge. Gary B obviously found the running a bit better, even though it was his first time out on the course, as he won 4/3. That means the final will be played out between Nigel Jones and Gary Burke and I would guess that it will be played at Lanna next Monday. Good Luck.

Lanna Mon 21 March
There is no doubt that a semi-final knockout match between Garry Walker and Nigel Jones at Lanna today was one of the closest fought final rounds so far in this tournament. The lead changed hole to hole. All square after nine holes, all square after 18 holes. The match was a draw. A rematch was discussed however, with the other semi final match is yet to be played and with Garry departing for Australia this Sunday and therefore unable to participate in a final anyway he has agreed to forfeit the rematch and Nigel goes through to the final.

Also Dave Robinson unable to compete in his match giving a forfeit/bye to Garry Walker. This completes the second round of matches and a draw for the third round will be carried out at Lanna on monday.

Mae Jo 1 Mar
Haydn Patterson & Christian Friis played out their friendly match today helped along with some friendly stirring by Gordon & Jimmy and some grumbling about temporary greens by 'H' on a relatively quiet course. Despite a somewhat ordinary start Haydn managed to fight through to be dormy on the 14th before going down on the next hole leaving Christian with a smile on his face as the winner on the day. Well done.

Lanna 28 Feb
Two knockout matches played today. Jimmy & Garry agreed to have a rematch instead of a chip & Putt playoff as Dave R was not present to play against the winner for the second round and both were playing a round anyway. Certainly fairer than a chip and putt or the first person to win a hole. Anyway, the result ended in favour of Garry 6/5. Garry started well with a birdie on the first hole and even though Jimmy used his strokes to the best advantage and both players left putts on the very edge of the hole, he felt he was not playing to his usual high standard. The other match was Mr.B. and Nigel in the second round. Nigel was using a new driver to great advantage and even gave Mr.B an extra stroke on handicap advantage but Mr.B. struggled with a sore wrist on the hard ground finally coming good when it was too late. Nigel won 7/5.

Lanna Mon 21 Feb
Jimmy & Garry played out the final match of the first round and with neither player scoring well in a see sawing game the match ended in a draw, something which Mr.B. had not taken into consideration for this competition. After much discussion it was decided that the result would be determined by a chip and putt contest to be carried out on the practice green before the round next monday. It was also decided that the draw could go ahead for the next round.

The matches (matchplay) are to be played as soon as possible after the draw but within a ten day period following the draw on any 18 hole course in Chiangmai agreeable to both players. The sooner the matches are completed the sooner the draw for the next round can be carried out.
If the players cannot agree on a date or a course on which the match is to be played, then the player whose name was drawn first in the draw will offer two dates and/or two courses to his opponent, if one of these dates/courses are not taken up by his opponent then he will get a bye through to the next round and his opponent will be out of the competition.
The matches will be played on a handicap basis e.g., a 12 handicap player playing a 24 handicap player will give his opponant 12 strokes which will equate to the stroke index 1 -12 on the course that they are playing.
